Chapter 7: Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM): A Directory of Human Genes and Genetic Disorders
نویسندگان
چکیده
Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIMTM) is a timely, authoritative compendium of bibliographic material and observations on inherited disorders and human genes. It is the continuously updated electronic version of Mendelian Inheritance in Man (MIM). MIM was last published in 1998 (1) and is authored and edited by Dr. Victor A. McKusick and a team of science writers, editors, scientists, and physicians at The Johns Hopkins University and around the world (2). Curation of the database and editorial decisions take place at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. OMIM provides authoritative free text overviews of genetic disorders and gene loci that can be used by clinicians, researchers, students, and educators. In addition, OMIM has many rich connections to relevant primary data resources such as bibliographic, sequence, and map information.

Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man, OMIM(®), is a comprehensive, authoritative and timely research resource of curated descriptions of human genes and phenotypes and the relationships between them. The new official website for OMIM, OMIM.org (http://omim.org), was launched in January 2011. OMIM is based on the published peer-reviewed biomedical literature and is used by overlapping and diverse...

متن کاملOnline Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM) as a knowledgebase for human developmental disorders.
In this review, we summarize the current genetic information on human developmental disorders found in Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM). The OMIM catalogues human phenotypes and genotypes and relevant mouse models. Among the more than 11005 genetic disorders and loci, we found at least 1231 human conditions with known gene mutationsffWe searched for human developmental disorders that ...
متن کاملHomophila: human disease gene cognates in Drosophila
Although many human genes have been associated with genetic diseases, knowing which mutations result in disease phenotypes often does not explain the etiology of a specific disease. Drosophila melanogaster provides a powerful system in which to use genetic and molecular approaches to investigate human genetic diseases. Homophila is an intergenomic resource linking the human and fly genomes in o...
